Summer is garage sale season. Every weekend, a plethora of signs litter street corners with promises of sales, deals and, let’s face it, the thrill of the hunt that can only be satiated by garage sale-ing (as we used to call it when I was a kid).
But, just like everything in our world today, someone was bound to make an app for that.
And guess what? They did.
Welcome the Garage IOS app, where anyone can upload anything that they want to get rid of on an Internet marketplace (we knew this was coming on some level, didn’t we??).
From its description, the app seems a lot more simple than setting up an actual garage sale. All you have to do is upload photos of your stuff, add captions and shipping options. You can set prices or allow folks to bid on your items (just like a real-life garage sale!). To keep the social media component in place, you can like or tweet your opinion about any particular item (my old George Michael CD collection is bound to get a lotta love with this option).
Garage started out in the U.K. and Italy last spring, and things are now heating up in other markets. The app can be downloaded for free from the iTunes App Store.
So, while garage sales may soon be a thing of the past, we have our own 2012 rendition of it.
And even though I’m fairly sentimental and hate to see an old standby like garage sales fall to the wayside, putting on a garage sale is a nightmare, so this may be the next best thing. What are your thoughts about Garage? Will you use it? Tell us about it here!
